Disaster Risk Reduction Approach
Summary
Disaster Risk Reduction is an approach to risk mitigation that emphasizes identifying, assessing, and reducing the risks of disaster. It can be compared to a planning perspective that embraces conventionality and gives little attention to uncertainty and risk.
The evolution of DRR as a method for mitigation arose in the 70s when researching began to see evidence on how a more holistic, preventative approach to mitigation can drastically cut costs of disaster recovery. Since then it has branched out into many different subsections and offers a set of specific strategies that have been identified as positive for promoting DRR.
