Periodical External Review
Summary
Every 5 years an external body does a review to see the potential strengths and weaknesses of the National Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Program (NTHMP). During this review, emphasis is placed on what programs have worked/failed in other regions in the world that have gone through traumatic tsunami events. In the case of Oregon, a tsunami in Sumatra provided a helpful example of how old inundation (flooding) maps needed to be rechecked.
